Guatemala via Des Moines, Melcher-Dallas, and San Pedro Sula (Honduras)

Home for the holidays happened to be right on our route. It turned out that it was much cheaper to fly through Des Moines, Iowa, to Honduras than from Phoenix. Deb got to surround herself with munchkins in her hometown of Melcher-Dallas, and everyone got lots of food with all the trimmings. Volleyball and poker were also on the agenda but no one took pictures of the volleyball. Most were thankful about that.

We’ve been thinking about Neytiri for awhile now. The chilly Arizona mornings when we are trying to get the joints working for Pickleball are good triggers for thinking about warmer places.

We have been packing and making little Guatemala stashes for a month and we will still forget something. Right now, we’re wondering if we packed the VHF. We also have to get all the boat parts on our list. We are going to Honduras via Iowa because we can hit Christmas with the relatives and it is $600 cheaper than Phoenix. We should have sent all the boat parts to Deb’s sister Cindy because we have barely enough luggage in the RV to handle our exit. Our luggage collection is in the pole barn in Iowa and once we get there, we’ll be fine.

Luggage is an interesting challenge in a dual home, dual country lifestyle. Sometimes we need eight 49.5 pound bags and we’re stuck with lots of empties. Sometimes we’re caught short and have to buy more. And sometimes, we try to shove everything into what we have and the zippers and wheels break.

Of course, now that we have all the new boat parts ordered, a German is flying in to Guatemala to look at Neytiri. All plans for 2017 are suddenly subject to change.

We have had visitors in Arizona (or are we the visitors?). There are relatives on Deb’s side of the family all through the area, some permanent and some transient. We got together with all of them at one time or another and did Sedona one more time.
